With Thanksgiving coming the race is on to plan the menu, shop, and set the table. Table runners help to tie everything together and also add a bit of spill protection for the table cloth. Making a table runner is a quick and inexpensive way to customize the colors and style to your exact Thanksgiving decor. A simple DIY Thanksgiving table runner is on the menu today – Let’s get started!
Materials:
Fabric that is about 6-8″ longer than your table’s length (and about 12″ wide)
Paint – One Tube Craft Paint
Paint brush
Stencil letters
Scissors.
I used burlap from a local farm store and paid about $2. I purchased paint from a discount store for 50 cents and stencils were 1.97 so the cost is under $5 for the runner. You’ll also need old newspaper or cardboard to protect your work surface from stains.
How-To:
I wanted an angled edge on the runner so I began by cutting a notch in the fabric. You can skip this step if you want a straight edge.
Paint letters on the runner using the stencils. I used the phrase “GIVE THANKS” on one end and “THANKFUL” on the other. You may use whatever words are meaningful to you and your family for the runner. You could even stencil names of the guests, it’s up to you. This DIY Thanksgiving table runner took me about 30 minutes to complete.
Allow to dry for several hours after you’ve finished the lettering. Keep it on the newspaper – if not paint drips everywhere!
Thankful!
The finished products –
Happy Thanksgiving!
