The Christmas season smells yummy.  There is a comfort and coziness in the cinnamon and spice of the holiday season.  Everywhere from the local coffee shop to the corner store smells really good.  It is simple to make your home smell like Christmas with very little effort and without harmful chemical fragrances with DIY Mulling Spices.  Let’s get started.

Materials:

Cinnamon Sticks
Whole Cloves
Orange or Citrus Peel
The internet needs “smell-i-vision” – I know you can’t smell this from the photo but it’s amazing.

How-To:

To an empty pot add two or three cinnamon sticks, a small handful of whole cloves, and the peel of an orange and lime.  You may also used dried orange peel – use whatever is available to you.  Use a pot that you don’t use often.  This pot can stay on the stove for the entire month.

Pour enough water into the pot to completely cover the ingredients and they need to float.  Turn the burner on and bring the uncovered pot to a boil.  Once the pot is rapidly boiling, turn the heat down to a simmer.  The steam from the pot will permeate your house with the scent of Christmas.
This mixture can last in the post for at least a week provided there is always water kept in the pot – just reboil it once you come home from work and turn it down to simmer for a relaxing and homey scent for the house.  You may always add a cinnamon stick or another fruit peel along the way.  The steam is delightful and will be a cheerful holiday touch for guests in your home.  And by the way – it is the perfect way to cozy up in a warm blanket with a hot cup of tea and enjoy a cold afternoon indoors!
