Farewell to My Friend

My sister’s dog passed away today.  Obie was a rescue puppy that my sister adopted from a raided puppy mill years ago.  He was in horrible health when we got him.  Obie couldn’t bark or make sounds for months.  His teeth were completely rotten and had to be pulled, he had congestive heart failure, and arthritis to name some of his issues.  Yet despite his troubles, he would run until he coughed and he never gave up.  His tail would wag through the coughing and he never realized he was sick.  Obie was most at home on a lap sleeping or eating – eating was probably his favorite pastime.  It’s hard to lose a dog, he’s more like family.  We love Obie for the spitfire he was and for teaching everyone that no matter your circumstance, you can never give up.

Obie!

Please consider adopting the next time you want to bring a pet into your family.  There are thousands of animals in shelters and rescues waiting on homes.  These animals are the sweetest gift you can give yourself and your family.  Please visit your local shelter either in person or online to see for yourself.
